Smile design
During the last decade there has been an increase in the demand for cosmetic or aesthetic dentistry. Recent media and celebrity focus on the smile, with TV shows such as Extreme Makeover and Ten Years Younger, has raised public awareness about cosmetic dentistry, its accessibility and the various treatments available. Terms such as “smile makeover” or “Hollywood smile” have become familiar to many people.
However the media coverage of cosmetic dentistry may, for many, lead them to think that such cosmetic procedures are often too expensive, involve travelling to certain renowned roads in London or are only provided by ‘celebrity dentists’ – this is a common misconception.
At Dentistry@68 we take pride in having the knowledge, the skills, the technology and the technical support to deliver your new smile. Factors such as an individual’s face shape, tooth colour, tooth size and shape all contribute to the decision process in planning a new smile. Equally important is how the jaw moves and functions so that your new smile can be harmonized with your bite to ensure longevity.
Common cosmetic dental procedures include teeth whitening, veneers, porcelain restorations, crowns & bridges, implants, white fillings, orthodontics (braces or aligners) and gum reshaping. Individual treatments or a combination of treatments may be required to meet an individual’s expectation of their desired smile
A beautiful and functional smile can have numerous effects on ones self-confidence, self-esteem and personal relationships.
What you can expect
- An assessment of the facial structure, facial symmetry and lip structure
- A thorough examination of the teeth, the gums and the soft tissues
- A thorough examination of the jaw joint (TMJ) and facial muscles
- Any necessary digital x-rays
- A series of digital photographs of you and your teeth
- Articulated study models – impressions taken of your mouth and mounted to assess the function of your bite and aid treatment planning
- ‘In-House’ patient management with colleagues who have special interests in various dental fields
- Diagnostic wax-up – where appropriate information is gathered from the patient’s desires, patients clinical photographs and from the dentist’s proposed treatment plan. This allows the technician to use their expertise and artistic ability to create a wax-up as a starting point for the patient’s new smile
- In many cases the diagnostic wax-up can be used to provide a putty guide to transfer the proposed new smile directly into the patient’s mouth for the patient to ‘trial the smile’. This is completed without any irreversible affects to the patients teeth
- If a patient is happy with the proposed changes the treatment can begin to create their new smile
- Full written treatment plans provided
